The following organisations will be available to explain what they offer and how their volunteer roles could benefit you in terms of gaining valuable work experience and/or giving something back to the community. Please note that most of these roles require only a few hours per week.

University Careers Advisers will be available throughout the event to answer your questions and to help you improve your CV while the Reach Team will be there to hear your comments and answer any questions you might have about volunteering, skills training, peer support and career mentoring.

Baytree Centre

The Baytree Centre aims to serve the disadvantaged women and girls of Lambeth in enabling them to reach their full educational, personal and social potential.  Voluntary roles include Art Club Volunteers, Into-School Mentors and Math’s Club Volunteers.

British Youth Council

British Youth Council aims to support all young people in the UK to exercise their right to participate in decisions which affect them, by providing support, advice on involving young people at all levels of decision making. As part of their volunteer scheme you can get involved with such issues as: A Minimum Wage for All – Fair Pay for Everyone, Votes at 16 – your right, your vote, Respect? campaign – challenge negative stereotypes about youth, LGBT rights in Poland and any more.

Citizens Advice Bureau

The Citizens Advice service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers. You could volunteer as an office administration assistant.

Community Advice & Support Scheme

CASS provide practical assistance (befriending, gardening, shopping etc.) and support to disabled and or elders in the Islington and Hackney with the support of dedicated volunteers.

Creative Corners

Creative Corners is a not for profit organisation that arranges tailor made volunteer experiences in South and Central America with a creative angle.

Depaul Trust

Offers homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fulfill their potential and move towards an independent and positive future.  Roles include admin, client research, EVS project support, family mediation project support and resettlement support volunteers.

Food Chain

Provides hot and cold meal services on a Sunday to housebound people living with HIV/AIDS. It also provided a small number of weekly grocery boxes and offer support and nutritional advice. Has an extensive training and volunteer development programme which provides opportunties for training in a variety of different spheres.

Frontier

International non-profit conservation, research and development organisation, dedicated to protecting tropical habitats, including rainforests, tropical forests, savannas, coral reefs, and mangroves. volunteer to work on a conservation expedition in Cambodia, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Fiji, Costa Rica, Peru, Nepal, Tibet, India, Mexico and Guatemala.

London Football Association

The LFA regulates more than 80 leagues, 50,000 players and managers and 1,200 referees in Greater London. Its Volunteer section works on behalf of London grassroots clubs and leagues and offers various volunteer roles from coaching to admin.  

London International Festival of Theatre

Lift is a theatre festival which has been presenting exciting and innovative international theatre in London over the past 25 years. Lift is currently working on producing its next festival in June 2008 in Stratford, east London and the Southbank Centre. Voluntary Placements in development, learning, Lift Living archive, producing and office administration.

Marie Curie Cancer Care

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality, home nursing, for terminally ill people and is completely free of charge to the patients and their families.  This enables them to be at home supported by their families at the end of their lives.  Volunteer as a street Collector.

RSPB

The RSPB is the largest nature conservation organisation in Europe.  Volunteers contribute to its work on reserves, offices, fundraising, awareness raising and campaigns. 

Tolerance International - UK 

Works to moderate extremes, whether they are cultural, religious or environmental by promoting tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Volunteer as a Community Engagement Worker and visit schools, youth clubs and other institutions to assist and deliver a workshop aimed at raising awareness of religious and other types of intolerance and discrimination.

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

Organise public events to encourage people to enjoy the park: Open Day, Dawn Chorus Day, bat walks, butterfly walks, Open House Day, & much more.  Opportunities to get involved with biodiversity work through nature conservation activities.

Tower Hamlets Victim Support

Tower Hamlets victim support scheme provides support and information to victims of crime in Tower Hamlets. Work as a volunteer visitor and provide support and practical advise to victims of crime.

VSO

VSO is an international development charity that works through volunteers who aim to pass on their expertise to local people so that when they return home their skills remain. Volunteers can be aged between 18 and 75 years old and must have a formal qualification and some work experience. The range of jobs is vast, and includes small business advisors, teachers, social workers, health professionals, management consultants, marine biologists, accountants and farmers.

Walk the Walk

Walk the Walk is a charity not only dedicated to raising money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care, they are also passionate about encouraging a healthy lifestyle by including power walking into your daily life as a vital part of cancer prevention.
